I don't think it's overdeaigned at all!
I do think there could be so clarity in the design. Their collar and chest look like one piece initially. Maybe getting rid of the collar and making the chest fur flare out like a collar would work better!

Normal type villagers are really underrated. Skye's one of my favorites.
